Problem description

Today, robots for automated order collection in warehouses require a reliable mechanism for removing plastic baskets from racks (basket sizes up to 40x60x30 cm). Current solutions face problems with the high weight of baskets with products (up to 25 kg), as well as the lack of specialized racks for robots (standard racks designed for humans are used). This limits the scaling of autonomous warehouses for local logistics startups like EcomRobotics, increasing downtime and manual labor costs.

Expected effect

The effect of the introduction of the EcomRobotics robot basket extraction module is to increase reliability and accelerate the speed of basket extraction from racks, which minimizes robot downtime. Basket pulling time is accelerated by 40% and reliability is improved and uptime>90% is achieved on the basket pulling mechanism. In the early stages, it is planned that robots will take over up to 50% of routine extractions, freeing up employees for more complex tasks.

Purpose and description of task (project)

The aim of the project is to develop and prototype a basket extraction module for EcomRobotics robots with a choice of the optimal mechanism from two options.: 1) vacuum suction cups (pneumatic, 4 pieces with a diameter of 75-150 mm, force 100-200 kg); 2) mechanical hooks (servo hooks for baskets with a hook area or handles, force 200 + kg). The module integrates with the robot arm, is tested for 1000 cycles in a warehouse (10-40°C, 40-80% humidity)
