Purpose and description of task (project)

Development of solutions to eliminate magnetization and accumulation of metal particles in insulated rail joints to prevent failures in rail circuits and ensure the safety of high-speed railways.

Type of product

Software/ IS

Problem description

The high demands on railways, especially for high-speed trains, require exceptional track safety and reliability. However, magnetization occurs at isolated rail joints, which causes frequent failures in the operation of rail circuits. Metal particles from wheel and rail wear often accumulate at these joints, causing unintended shunting, which disrupts the operation of signaling systems and leads to spontaneous shorting of signals, endangering the safety of the tracks.

Expected effect

Potential solutions include new types of insulated joints that are resistant to magnetization and prevent the accumulation of metal particles, as well as upgrading existing joints to meet these improved standards. These solutions must take into account the unique loads and magnetic effects caused by heavy train traffic, providing permanent electrical insulation and reducing spontaneous circuit failures.
