The archive contains a significant amount of paper and analog media — about 1.5 million pieces of materials recorded on photographic paper and film, 3.5A floppy disks, as well as CDs. At the same time, the archive uses outdated units of measurement, different terminology and unregulated forms of recording. A significant part of the archival materials is in poor physical condition due to the age of the media, which requires preliminary restoration, careful scanning and special processing. The use of trained AI models to recognize seismic events and identify patterns (date of event, sensitivity and magnitude).
Implementation of high-quality earthquake forecasting to ensure the safety of the country's population. The project provides for the translation of various forms of data representation into a single standardized format to enable rapid digital processing using neural network technologies (artificial intelligence) and provide quick access to data over a long period of time.

Purpose and description of task (project)
The immediate purpose of the digitization of archival materials is the formation of a unified systematized database, which includes directly: digitized seismic materials (seismograms recorded on photographic paper and other recorded visualized materials); accompanying materials presented in the form of magazines, cards, bulletins. The implementation of the goals set provides for the fulfillment of a set of tasks: - cataloging and selecting previously digitized seismograms and records of seismic events from the archive of analog seismograms of the "National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research" LLP of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan; - scanning of archived materials; - creation of a database of metadata of seismic stations, which includes the collection and systematization of the main parameters of analog seismic stations (on–site conditions, recording devices and calibration information); - digitization of historical seismograms of seismic events, which involves digitizing selected earthquake seismic records using specialized software; - quality control of digitized archival material; - creation of a database of digitized seismological material. The formation of a database of digitized seismological material ensures the systematization and preservation of historical archival materials, as well as provides an opportunity for their further use in research and practical tasks of seismology. Scanning and preparing images for digitization Scanning of materials to be digitized involves obtaining a high-resolution digital image (at least 600 dpi) in BMP or TIFF format (these formats do not use compression, resulting in loss of original detail and image quality). Also at this stage, images are being prepared for digitization: processing of the obtained images using graphic editors (cropping fragments that are not suitable for digitization, horizontal alignment, stitching fragments, bringing them to a unified display and format) Digitization of the prepared images At this stage, using specialized software, digital images are directly translated into digital data format (the recorded analog seismic signals are converted to the MiniSEED digital format, text recognition and receipt of text files containing the source information) Formation of the metadata database At this stage, the necessary information about the devices used in recording the signals, amplitude-frequency characteristics and recording conditions is collected and recorded (in the accompanying sheets). A metadata database is formed based on the collected and recorded data.
